The spindles on these fine aspen log bunk beds are mortise and tenon joints with ball and cup cut-outs. Each spindle is hand fit in, then glued, screwed and pegged, with the screws or pets being on the back underside of the spindles. This makes for stronger rustic log furniture construction, but is also highly unusual (many of our customers have told us they can't find another bed made in this manner!)

There are also gussets (or miniature spindles) on the side rails for support, all of which are joined with the same careful joinery used in the process described above. Mountain Woods beds have a raised height structure with built-in side rails and mattress supports. In contrast, many other log beds are lower and/or wrap around a metal bed frame to cut costs.

Constructed from nicely charactered aspen, these log beds hand-peeled to preserve the natural wood color and character. Then they are finished with an all natural finish featuring linseed oil and beeswax.

Bronze Aspen Stain

Those who prefer their rustic log furniture with darker, richer wood tones can now order any of the Mountain Woods or Rustic Arts rustic log furniture with Bronze Aspen stain. This stain blends well with many decor styles, including lodge, western or traditional.

The color of our Bronze Aspen stain complements the natural tones in the aspen wood, and showcases a rich array of colors and character in each handcrafted, hand-stained piece of furniture. Table tops and flat surfaces show off the richness of the Bronze Aspen finish and enhance the color variations. Any of our existing or customized Mountain Woods Furniture pieces can be created with the Bronze Aspen finish. All of the Bronze Aspen tops are hand-brushed with three coats of polyurethane for protection and durability, while the rest of the piece is hand-rubbed with a beeswax and linseed oil combination.
